Aerobics

Aerobics- combination of rhythmic aerobic exercises that benefits the body to a large extent

Concerned about your fitness? You can simply stop worrying and start aerobics to improve your fitness drastically. The form demands exercise with stretching and strength routines, so as to improve your fitness drastically. The best part of aerobics is that it is usually done with music and that keeps up the tempo of all. The primary reason of aerobics is to prevent illness and then improve on fitness. Aerobics has become so popular that even competition has started and the fittest persons from all over the world fight against each other.

The term “aerobics” and the method of performing the exercises were first developed by Kenneth H. Cooper who was an M.D along with another physical therapist named Col. Pauline Potts. Both of them worked for the United States Air Force. Dr. Cooper, who was an exercise enthusiast professionally and personally, took the initiative to make people understand the benefits of tasks like swimming, running and bicycling. He was the first to start measuring the systematic human performance by the use of bicycle ergo meter. He published his first book named Aerobics in 1968 that included scientific exercise programs like walking, swimming and running and the benefits of those exercises.

Aerobics benefits the human body to a great extent in preventing illness and at the same time promotes physical fitness. Aerobics practitioners generally perform various routines which comprise a number of different types of dance like exercises. Formal aerobics classes are classified into different level of complexity and intensity. This types of classes helps to allow the participants to select their level of participation accordingly to their fitness level. There are a number of gyms that offer a wide range of aerobic classes for the participants to choose and take according to their fitness of their body. Each class that is available after joining these gyms involves a design for a specific level of experience and that sort of specific class is taught by a certified instructor who have a specialty in that particular area.

In general, aerobic refers to that type of exercise which improves or involves the consumption of oxygen by the body. The term Aerobic, means “with oxygen”, refers to the use and burning of oxygen in the metabolic activities of the body and also in all types of energy generating processes. Practically, many types of the exercises that are practiced are aerobic and are performed at different levels of intensity for extended periods of time. If you want to get the best results, you can perform an aerobic exercise session that involves a warming up period. The warming up period can extend to five to ten minutes and should be followed by at least 15 to 20 minutes of moderate to intense exercises. The intense exercise should involve extensive exercise involving large muscle groups. In the end, a cooling down period should follow all the exercises.

Aerobic exercises differ with the anaerobic exercise by the duration and the intensity of the involvement of muscular intensity. During aerobic exercise, glycogen gets broken down to produce glucose. After this step, glucose gets further broken down by the use of oxygen to generate energy. If there is absence of carbohydrates, fat metabolism gets initiated.

There are innumerable forms that comprise aerobic exercises. But in most cases, aerobics is usually performed at a moderate level of intensity which can vary for different individuals over a relatively long period of time span. For example, if you take the difference between running and sprinting, and running a couple of mile even paced the marathon would be considered more of an aerobic exercise but the sprint would now be. Similarly, golf or doubles tennis that involve brief bursts of metabolic activity and are punctuated by one or more frequent breaks are not considered as aerobic exercises. But playing single tennis which involves constant movement is considered to be an aerobic activity.

There are some sports that are considered to be inherently aerobic such as aerobic dancing classes or fartlek training because they are specifically designed to improve the fitness and aerobic capacity of the body. There are numerous benefits that one can receive on performing aerobic exercises. Some of the recognized benefits are strengthening the muscles that are involved in respiration which facilitates the flow of air in and out of the lungs of the human body, enlarging and strengthening the muscles of the heart thereby improving the pumping efficiency of the heart and also reducing the resting rate of the heart, toning the body muscles, improving the efficiency of the circulation of the blood in the body thereby reducing the blood pressure, increasing the total number of available red blood cells in the human body helping in facilitating the transport of the oxygen and lastly, it improves the mental health by reducing stress and also lowering the amount of depression.

In a nutshell, aerobics has numerous benefits for your body and it helps your body in the long run by reducing the risk of death due to various sort of cardiovascular diseases. High impact aerobic activities like jumping rope and jogging stimulates growth of bones thereby reducing chances of having osteoporosis in case of both men and women. If one undergoes long sessions of aerobics every day, his body can benefit with the increased storage of various energy molecules that include fats and carbohydrates within the human muscles thus allowing increased endurance. Aerobics also involves in Neo-vascularization of the muscle sarcomeres that increases blood flow to the muscles. In case of fatty bodies, aerobics helps in improving the ability of muscles to use substantial fats during exercise and thus preserving intra muscular glycogen. It also enhances the speed at which the human muscles recover from exercises involving high intensity. So, if you want to be fit as you want to stay fit forever and fight all the health issues you have, then joining aerobics can be the best option.
